ALLEZ CUISINE!

Last week was really busy with Walter out of town and different functions with church and scouts each night. So, I had neglected my weekly grocery shopping and we just ate Thanksgiving leftovers all week. So, on Sunday night, I finally got a chance to do our shopping. I had a list of things we had run out of, but I didn’t have my week’s menu planned out like usual. My shopping strategy was to head to the meat department and see what looked good and buy accompaniments to suit.

Yesterday, I sent Walter an instant message at work and told him that dinner was ground turkey and he could get creative. So, he called me at work when he got home:
“What kind of meat did you tell me is in the fridge?” he asked.
“Ground turkey. Why?” I replied.
“Well, it’s not ground turkey. It’s expired ground LAMB!”
“Whaat!” I thought he was joking at first. Mostly because I was POSITIVE that I got turkey meat because it was right in the same case as the turkey meat. And I had just bought it three days ago; it couldn’t be expired. The person who labeled the package had to have made the mistake. “Does it smell expired?” I asked.
And I could hear him sniffing. “No, but..”
“Where does it say lamb? On the sticky label?”
“It says lamb on the sticky label AND on the product package.”

How could I make that kind of oversight? So, we determined that the contents were not actually expired, as the sticky label and package label didn’t match. But it was definitely lamb meat. But this is why I’m so lucky to have him: he said when we hung up the phone, he heard Chairman Kaga in his head, “ALLEZ CUISINE!” and took it as a challenge to do something awesome with it.

And let me tell you, he created the most awesome lamb and rice burritos I’ve ever had. Probably the best burritos I’ve had period. It was awesomeness rolled up in a tortilla.

  1. I already mentioned this on Walter's Facebook status about the lamb burritos, but, if you've got room at your house, can I be adopted into your family...at least a couple of days a week at dinner time? Cause the combination of two of my favorite foods (lamb and burritos) just sounds amazing.
