Changing habits is hard. And especially so for our family. But I would like to announce that I think I scored my first triumph over the breakfast mess.
I used to nag. Which led to them blocking me out. Which led to me hollering. Which led to them blocking me out eve more. Which led to me hollering about them blocking me out. So I changed my approach. I've decided to change things a little at a time.
I try to catch them right as they're finishing their breakfast (or any meal) and remind them to clear the table and bring their dishes to the kitchen and bring their cereal boxes back to the pantry. And I don't want to jinx anything, but I haven't had to ask in a while; they just do it.
Phase 2: instead of piling dishes in the sink, get the bowls right in the dishwasher. But I'll have to let go of some of my control issues with the way the dishwasher gets loaded first. At least until I can get them to load it. Then we'll work on technique.
