My Girl Scout troop has been saving up for and planning this trip for five years. Our first big trip was just an overnight trip to Johnson Space Center in Houston. When we got back from that and started planning for our next cookie sale, I asked them, "Okay, girls, what do you want to do next?" They decided they wanted to see a coral reef.
This wasn't actually an outrageous request; I grew up near the reef in Florida and knew exactly where to go. As we sat on the plane, my co-leader, Sarah, later confessed that she kept waiting for me to break it to the girls that wasn't really something we could do.
The Itinerary: We departed DFW on Monday morning, took a shuttle from MIA to the place where we had to pick up our RVs, and drove down to Key Largo. On Tuesday, we got tickets on the park ferry out to the reef and snorkeled all afternoon. Wednesday, we drove down to the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon. Thursday, we left real early and reversed Monday's journey.
There were so many wonderful little moments on this trip. I don't think I can capture them all in one sitting. I'm going to have to chronicle this trip over several blog posts.
