Broken Stereotypes

Pilots are cocky, egotistical, arrogant, and supreme. We look people in the eye and walk with a swagger.

Engineers are shy, antisocial, introverted, and brilliant. They look at the ground when they walk, and often walk like ducks with their toes pointed out.

Today, I found myself in engineer land, and not as a visitor.  I'd been wrapped around the axle all day on a very technical problem. I was stumped. It's one of those problems that keeps you up at night and bugs you until you solve it.  So, as I walked to my car, my brain still cranking and calculating and not really paying attention to where I was going. I got to my car and didn't really remember walking there. I had walked the whole way looking at the asphalt like an engineer.

So, my stereotype was suddenly busted.  Engineers don't look down because they're shy or intimidated. Rather, they're off in their own little world solving problems in their head!  I realized that they're probably just as self-involved as pilots are!
