Science Spectacular!

So, did y'all know that I'm a Girl Scout troop leader now?  I don't think I wrote about that yet.  There was a troop in the adjacent suburb that was losing their leader and the local council asked if I was interested. You bet I am!

So, my girls participated in a science fair this past weekend. I had to come up with a quickie science project, and of course, I picked something related to the weather. I decided to teach them about thunderstorm cycles and how tornadoes form.

To top it off, my inner weather geek hit the jackpot two weeks ago. I was at a season kickoff rally for all the leaders. There were a bunch of booths and vendors set up with information about various projects and presentations they can do with your troop. One lady offers to teach knots for $1 per girl. Another lady teaches martial arts and self defense. Another booth was set up for a nursing home support partnership. Well, I came across the crown jewel of all the booths - the weather lady, Kristine Kahanek, who used to be on our local CBS affiliate. She has a children's book that I bought and she signed for Chloe (Chloe didn't bounce nearly as high as I did about it.). And I also got a coloring book and a t-shirt. I babbled like an idiot (again) in front of a celebrity. I told her all about the project I was going to do with the girls and her book was a perfect way to introduce the topic. As I digress...

Back to the science fair: The girls had a really fun time. They set it up where the troops were divided in half. The first half goes around the room to each table and learns about the other troop's projects. When a whistle is blown, they move to the next station. The other half of the troop stays behind and presents to the rotation. When the troop is back together, the two groups switch places and make rounds again. Neat concept. Except my girls were few at best and ran off to see the other experiments and I was left at the table to present to everyone else. Darn, I had to sit and talk about the weather for two hours, whatever shall become of me?
